LAST WEEK IN STOCKHOLM: - HOW I CARRIED 45 BOOKS A 100 KM
My last week in Sweden was maaad stressful. I’d decided to work up until the last week (due to money matters) and left all the preparations for last minute as usual… (I’m not nicknamed “Last Minute SuperWoman” for nothing..) So my last days were on a tight schedule of utility shopping, packing, but mainly…copying…. I am now a copying PRO! One week earlier I had found the NORDIC AFRICA INSTITUTE by coincidence when a misunderstanding gave me a few hours to kill in Uppsala. Their library proved to be a goldmine if you have an interest in african cinema which of course is what I am writing my thesis on. They had a whole section! I had been looking for these books for ages but they had proved almost impossible to find. Until now. The timing couldn’t have been any worse though since I wanted to read ALL the books but i was leaving in a week! Seeing the library closed in less than an hour I only saw the option to borrow the whole section and go through it at home. Problem was I live 100 km away in a different city. So I went to Clas Ohlsson (a hard ware store) to buy something to carry them home but was twice lucky when I saw a big blue ikea-bag. There was only one obstacle; it was tucked into someone else’s bag. I kindly asked if i could possibly buy it from the woman, but she offered to give it to me! People truly are nice when you need it the most. So, that’s how i carried 45 books on the train back to Stockholm and then spent the remaining week occupying the copying machine at uni, shooing off other students with a forced smile while they were wondering what the hell I was doing, judging from their looks. Busy until the last minute before leaving home I was happy to say goodbye to stress, snow storms, delayed trains and freezing weather and be on my way to the sun in Burkina Faso! But before that; a quick stop to say hello to my friends in Paris!
