Waiting at the airport was Amadou, the owner of LE SAMANDIN, the hostel where I had reserved a room, and Almina, another Swedish student who is also in Burkina doing research. Getting a ride straight to the hostel and being welcomed with a crêpe with home made mango sauce was more than I’d bribed for! Almina kindly gave me quick crash course in the do’s and don’ts of Ouaga and pointed out the bank on the map. She explained that I should look for a large bronze and gold coloured building (suitable for a bank) before she went off to Bonogo - the village where she’s working, with Akanni, her translator and friend. I crashed in bed, absolutely knackered.
After a power nap I was ready to hit the streets of Ouaga.
